From what I'm told, the reunion was quite fun. I would've loved to have been there, but, of course, Misty banned me (as was her right as the coordinator; I have no ill will toward her). I hope Misty will find it in her heart to forgive whatever trespasses caused this disdain toward me, if for no other reason than I'd still like to see everyone, even in ten more years. Ok, the solution to the problem. Myself, I make $70,000 dollars a year, Dr. Grelling is a physicist/swimwear model so she estimates around the same, Greg, teacher Alachua County maybe $35,000 and finally Dr. Etheredge (many address him as McDreamy), not sure of his income, but has several contacts as do for I. So between the 4 of us we should pay all who attend. What do you think?

This is probably a violation of friendship confidentiality, but I feel compelled to bring a disturbing development to everyone's attention: Etheredge emailed me last night and said he wasn't going to pay. He said he was just going to use this site to make everyone think he was going to pay, but then he was just going to show up, just "to see the looks on everyone's faces." I was conflicted about whether to bring his note to others' attention, but in the end I felt compelled. It just isn't right that Stephen thinks the rules don't apply. I don't know what they teach in "medical school" or any other kind of "school," but I do know this: rules are rules, and no one is above them.

Most reunions require payment up front. Same here. That will help with head count for food and such. I'm all for keeping it as inexpensive as possible and am looking at having a venue by the weekend to get the registration process started. This will give us a few months to get the deposits made. Unfortunately reunions are plagued by free-rider problems. No one has an incentive to pick up the tab for the event, because everyone is thinking everyone else ought to do it. In other words, it's rational to want all of the benefits without assuming any of the costs (i.e., "I'll show up, but not pay."). The problem, of course, is that everyone has the same set of incentives (i.e., to free ride on the efforts of everyone else). In other words, reunions are a "public goods" problem, because it is difficult to make them excludable. After all, are we going to turn away, say, Stephen Etheredge, just because he hasn't chipped in when he shows up? Of course not. Until that fundamental problem is solved (and of course it can be, since reunions do happen), organizing anything is going to be difficult.
